Vandalism Problems and how The Mosquito can help

Moving Sound Technologies Inc.

Vandalism is defined as the deliberate damaging or defacing of property which belongs to the public, another person or corporation. Examples of vandalism include broken windows, graffiti, placing glue into locks, slashing tires, keying cars and even cutting down trees without permission. Vandalism is considered a crime in the USA and Canada and it costs both economies millions of dollars every year.

When it comes to public facilities, vandalism targets include schools, parks, leisure facilities, business buildings, malls, parkades, train and bus stations and more. Vandalism can occur at different times of day or night, however, most frequently, incidents occur between 10:00 pm 2:00 am on Fridays and Saturdays during spring, summer and fall. Warmer nights typically show a higher incident rate because individuals tend to stay out more, as opposed to cold winter weather when acts of vandalism are typically reduced. Last week of August before school starts and Halloween also tend to show a rise in vandalism.

Vandalism has many negative effects on the community where it takes place. The costs of vandalism are high and are a big burden on tax payers and businesses. The costs include money spent on property damage repairs, such as removing graffiti, replacing windows, locks, metal railings and more. Vandalism costs also include preventative measures, such as installing security and surveillance systems, improving lighting and hiring security guards.

Vandalism also has a negative impact on the quality of life and visual appearance of the community where it takes place. Individuals tend to feel less comfortable and safe in areas prone to property damage. Property values are reduced in those areas as well.

Vandalism also often leads to other social problems, such as theft, arson, violence, drug and alcohol abuse, rowdyism and violence. In other words, vandalism is a serious problem which needs to be addressed.

How the Mosquito can help:
Our anti-loitering device the Mosquito can help prevent vandalism because vandalism often occurs as a result of teenage loitering. After the Mosquito is installed in areas where loitering and vandalism happen frequently, teenagers are discouraged from gathering in those areas because they find the Mosquitos sound very annoying and dont want to hang out when the device is turned on. Therefore, by preventing unwanted youth gatherings, the Mosquito also helps prevent vandalism.
